“ Great authentic Fish and Chips. The fish was beer battered and not too thick a coating. Wonderful location. Love the ambiance and laid back feel of this pub. We will be back to try some other items on the menu like the Scottish eggs! ”
“ I discovered this place on Yelp while craving something new! Oh Lord yesss The Goose & Fern. When I entered there were a few ppl at the bar dining and some patrons having dinner together at the tables. The bartender Devin was simply amazing. She welcomed me after me telling her that I found this restaurant on Yelp. She invited me to sit at the bar with the others or I could grab a table? Devin is also the server, she took my order and offered me something to drink. The food didn't take long. I ordered the fish and chips that came with Cole Slaw. The fish was huge as I gleamed over my plate. By the end of the meal I asked Devin did she have a blanket and a pillow in the back for me to stretch out? She laughed and said sure I could lie on the long bench where I sat. The food here is delicious. A guy who sat at the bar on his way out, stopped at my table to say he heard my introduction to the bartender about Yelp and that this place was a great place to come have a few beers, eat, and to enjoy company and conversation. I asked him his name? He told me it was Dan. He spoke so eloquently about Devin. I thanked him, maybe we'll meet again I said? This unique place gave me a "Cheers" feel! it was so comfy. Thank You to The Goose & Fern! ”
“ We ate here tonight and the vibes were good. You can tell they make each order fresh. It's the most legit english pub in Rosa. The bartender/ servicer was hella sweet and friendly! The food was fabulous especially the BBC fries! It was a cool vintage furniture type seating. Coursed out the food which was great. I loved everything we got it needed salt which was on the table. I would highly recommend trying them out!!! ”
“ Just had a great weekend in Sea Ranch and stopped by here on our way back to the bay. PERFECT food and vibe for a gloomy day and great company. Basically I had all of these for the first time ever: - oxtail soup and toastie 9/10. Crispy bread with gooey cheese and hot hearty soup. - scotch egg 10/10. Worth the $10, the egg was perfectly jammy and the outer coat was nice and savory with the sauce on the side. - Shepard pie 10/0. So huge and very hot making for a comforting meal. The mash on top was our favorite part. Service: there was only 1 guy working the bar and all the tables but he was FAST . Honestly was really impressed (and entertained) by his sliding behind the bar, clearing tables and checking on customers with a happy attitude. Would like to come back and try the fish and chips + the bangers and mash. ”
“ We had lunch on a Sunday and it was quiet while also having an almost full place. The bartender was friendly and sitting at the bar made it easy to chit chat with other customers. The food was deliciously good. We ordered the fish and chips and the Guinness braised beef and we were blown away. Very good. ”
“ Stupid me, I've never given the Goose & Fern much thought. We had planned on going to dinner w/ another couple and a late swap option was introduced. Should we go to .... or Goose & Fern. I figured, we hadn't tried G&F, so why not. We were not disappointed. We were greeted by a very energetic, outstanding server. We started with drinks, beers all around. I love dark lagers and found one from Pond Farm "Dark Mast." Very good beer. I'll throw a curveball and say, why not have a Santa Rosa beer and offer "Death & Taxes," but it is what it is. The atmosphere was casual. There was a long bar w/ sports on the TV (but tennis over the NFL playoff game?? What??) and several tables that for the most part, were filled. For dinner, I ordered the Sheppard's Pie (which game with a side salad that had very tasty vinaigrette) . Others ordered Fish & Chips, Scotch Egg, a sausage and topped it off w/ some Sticky Toffee Pudding. There were absolutely no complaints at the table. Everyone seemed to rave about their meals. As the evening wore on, and our meals settled, we sat and talked were absolutely not rushed to get out. Other tables were filled with people playing dominoes or card games while they enjoyed a drink or meal. I'll definitely come back. Since everyone is raving about the hamburger, I may have to try that. ”
“ Prompt service, good Guinness with a lot of head, chips were pretty nice tasting. Nice place for a Friday evening! ”
“ Between the outstanding service, the relaxed vibe, focused menu, and incredibly delicious food...it was perfect from start to finish. First time to the restaurant, came on a Saturday night and there was one small spot left. Not a lot of tables, but the place was packed inside and out. Couples, families, friends hanging out at the bar. I'm sure it can annoy some servers when suggestions are requested, but ours never wavered. Torn between two beers, I asked her to just surprise me and she ended up bringing me both with a "why choose?" Touché. (London Pride. Old Speckled Hen.) Hubby got Guinness and it was silky smooth, and tasty! For dinner, I ordered the ever-comforting Guinness Braised Beef in a savory gravy with mushrooms and roasted carrots, all topped by creamy mashed potatoes. I couldn't finish, but the part I did eat had plentiful amounts of tender beef, the carrots were not mushy and the mushrooms added a nice chew. Good heavens, it was like a warm hug. The accompanying salad was fresh and light and provided a nice balance to the heavier, beef dish. My hubby ordered the fish and chips and declared it the best he's ever had. It was a massive piece of fish, a top a pile of hand cut fries/chips. The batter was proportional and crisp, flavorful, and provided the perfect blanket to the thick fish underneath. He is pretty picky about tartar sauce, but at the end, his little silver cup was empty. Loved it. (The curry sauce was tasty but not his preference.) Note: We saw a couple other orders go out and it appears they sometimes come out in smaller pieces. Either way, it's a lot of fish. Delicious. Delicious. Delicious. ”
“ Second time at this pub, and my favorite thing about it is the sticky toffee pudding. It set me on a hunt for sticky toffee pudding in general, but this one is just right. Dark interior, large tables. Service is friendly. They had more staff the first time I came in the early evening vs this time during the day around lunch, but the bartender (possibly also owner?) was hustling and you wouldn't have noticed if he wasn't a one-man show. Fish and chips - the fish was a bit too cooked for my liking but the chips were great. The curry was a bit sweet. Tartar was as expected. I also just went with malt vinegar too. Oxtail soup - this kind of reminded me of a French onion soup. The cheese toastie was like the croutons and cheese on top. Can't go wrong with oxtail either. Fish sandwich - pretty good, I don't think I've had this before. Not my favorite version of a fish sandwich but I could see myself getting it again if I was in the mood. Braised beef pie - packed with flavor, and very hearty. I'm more of a hand pie person, but the flavors were there and it came with the option of a salad (sensible choice). Sausage roll - I always like a puff pastry dish. Could probably skip this one but also apropos for pub food except plated fancier. I will be back for the sticky toffee pudding. ”
